Summer Starter Kit

It's officially that time of year again here in the Coachella Valley. Snow Birds are headed back north and the mercury is on the rise. Whether it's your first summer or you are a seasoned veteran, our summers define life here in our desert oasis. I want to share what summer is like for us locals, and I'd love to hear from you as well.

POOL

First thing is first, either have a pool, or have friends who have a pool. If you don't have access to a pool check out one of the public pools in the area. Reminder: it’s not too late to make friends with those neighbors down the street who have a pool (just sayin)

MISTERS

The truth about misters is not all are created equal. Firstly if you are looking to install them, make sure they will be cooling a fully shaded area otherwise it's a complete waste of time and money(trust me I learned the hard way). Secondly, invest in a pressurized misting system, it's worth it. The cheap misters you will find from the hardware store will do little more than wet your patio furniture.

SHADE

Installing awnings or drop down shades will reduce your energy bill and keep you and your house cooler. If you are looking to have shades installed let me know I have some amazing recommendations I can pass your way.

DAY TRIPS

We are blessed to be a 2 hour drive (or less) to countless cool and cooler locales. From the beaches of OC and SD to our local mountains. Take a break from the heat and go play in the snow up in our local mountains before it melts. Overnight accommodations in Idyllwild start at around $100 per night for a chic private cabin.

WATERING HOLES

There is no denying that it is likely to be a long hot summer. We live in a desert after all! Having a few favorite restaurants and bars to escape to in the long hours of the afternoon and evening does wonders for both mind and soul. If you are looking for a new spot to try I have a few recommendations. If you want to share your favorite local spot, I am always looking for new places to try and would love to hear from you in the comments, CHEERS!
